JonBenet Ramsey: Ongoing Investigation into the Unsolved 1996 Murder of Six-Year-Old Girl, Authorities Confirm | US News

The unresolved murder of a six-year-old beauty pageant queen remains a significant focus for investigators, police assert.

JonBenet Ramsey was discovered beaten and strangled in the basement of her family residence in Colorado in 1996, a case that has been revisited in a three-part Netflix series.

Her assailant has never been identified, and the police department in Boulder declined to comment on any ongoing tips during Monday’s inquiries.

“It’s clear that the Boulder Police Department is determined to solve this case, and their sole motivation is to bring justice to the victim,” they conveyed to Sky’s US partner network NBC News.

The department instead pointed to a video message from police chief Steve Redfearn, who remarked that officers “would love nothing more than to restore justice to her memory.”

This statement was released the day after Netflix launched Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey, rekindling interest in the murder case that captured global attention.

JonBenet was discovered on Boxing Day, several hours after her mother, Patsy, alerting authorities to a ransom note that had been discovered.

The girl’s father, John, found her later that day and carried her upstairs, compromising the integrity of the crime scene and leading to criticism of how the police managed the investigation.

Details of the crime and videos of JonBenet participating in beauty pageants elevated the case to one of the most high-profile mysteries in America.

“Many have pointed to various aspects over the years that could have been better managed, and we acknowledge that as a fact,” Mr. Redfearn commented last week.

“Nonetheless, it’s crucial to underscore that while we cannot change that dreadful day in 1996, our aim remains to identify JonBenet Ramsey’s murderer.

“Our dedication to this goal has never wavered.”

Although the girl’s family faced years of suspicion, prosecutors expressed regret to her parents and brother in 2008, exonerating them from any involvement.

The Netflix series does not accuse anyone but emphasizes her father’s hope that new DNA testing could resolve the case.

JonBenet’s mother passed away from cancer in 2006 at the age of 49.
