Judge denies immunity for convicted Rust armourer to testify in Alec Baldwin trial | US News
A judge has ruled that a convicted film set armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has been denied immunity to testify at actor Alec Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter trial over the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.
In March, Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for her role in the shooting that occurred during a rehearsal on the New Mexico set of the western film.
Baldwin pointed a prop gun at Hutchins, causing it to discharge and kill her, as well as injure director Joel Souza.
Baldwin has stated that he pulled back the gun’s hammer but did not pull the trigger.
Prosecutors had requested immunity for Gutierrez-Reed to prevent her testimony from being used against her in Baldwin’s trial, set to begin in July.
Her attorney stated that she does not want to incriminate herself as she appeals her 18-month imprisonment sentence from April and faces another weapons-related case.
Baldwin, who has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter, could face up to 18 months in prison if convicted.
