Judge Orders Trump Administration to Halt Removal of Asylum Seekers in Ongoing Lawsuit

The Trump administration is facing a lawsuit regarding the president’s announcement aimed at safeguarding states from invasion.

A federal judge granted an order on February 20, temporarily halting the Trump administration from expelling a group of unidentified asylum seekers while the legal proceedings are ongoing in a case they are part of against the president.

The temporary administrative stay, issued by U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss in Washington, will remain in place until noon on February 24.

The original lawsuit was initiated on February 3 in response to Trump’s proclamation titled “Ensuring State Protection Against Invasion.” The lawsuit claims that under this proclamation, the administration is violating congressional mandates by sending asylum seekers back to nations where they could face torture or persecution.

In a motion dated February 19, the plaintiffs referenced individuals using initials like “A.M.” and “B.R.,” indicating that their full names have been submitted under seal.

“These Individual Plaintiffs are noncitizens who escaped persecution and torture in their home countries and are seeking asylum and other forms of protection in the United States,” the motion reads.

It further states, “plaintiffs’ counsel spoke with Defendants’ counsel, who stated that Defendants oppose the relief sought in this motion and do not consent to keeping these Individual Plaintiffs in the United States while this lawsuit is pending.”
