Kamala Harris Secures Democratic Presidential Nomination Unopposed | US News
US vice president Kamala Harris is now the sole candidate seeking the presidential nomination, as no one else qualified before the deadline.
According to the Democratic National Committee, 99% of delegates signed Ms Harris’s nominating petition.
This solidifies her position as the Democratic frontrunner for the 5 November election after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.
“Our party has navigated this unprecedented moment with a transparent, democratic, and orderly process to unite behind a nominee with a proven record who will lead us in the fight ahead,” DNC chair Jaime Harrison stated.

Her campaign announced that Ms Harris will hold her first rally with her new vice presidential nominee on Tuesday 6 August in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
She will kick off a four-day battleground tour, including stops in Michigan and Arizona.
The choice of Pennsylvania for the first rally suggests that Pennsylvania’s governor, Josh Shapiro, may be her top pick for a running mate.
Other potential candidates include Kentucky’s governor Andy Beshear, US Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, Kentucky’s Governor Tim Walz, and the secretary of transportation Pete Buttigieg.

During a statement on Tuesday, Ms Harris mentioned that she had not made a decision yet on who she will run with against Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance.
