Kamala Harris has launched her first full day of campaigning in the White House race with a determination to win the November presidential election.
The US vice president and expected Democratic nominee made these remarks on X, following Mr. Biden’s announcement of withdrawing from the 2024 contest and endorsing her.
Ms. Harris mentioned her plan to visit workers at the campaign headquarters in Delaware, stating, “It’s the first full day of our campaign, so I’m heading up to Wilmington, DE later to say ‘hello’ to our staff in HQ. One day down. 105 to go. Together, we’re going to win this.”
Meanwhile, during an event at the White House grounds, Ms. Harris praised Mr. Biden’s legacy, calling it unmatched in modern history. She expressed gratitude for his service to the nation and reassured that he was recovering well from COVID.
Ms. Harris, who is currently the only declared Democratic candidate in the race against 78-year-old Republican Donald Trump, has been working to secure endorsements and delegates. She will need to choose a running mate if she wins the nomination.
Additionally, Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer and other potential Democratic challengers have shown support for Ms. Harris, indicating a strong backing within the party for her candidacy.
The Biden campaign has formally transitioned to “Harris for President,” showcasing her inheritance of staff, resources, and fundraising efforts. The campaign has seen a surge in donations following Mr. Biden’s endorsement.
As Mr. Biden steps aside and Ms. Harris takes center stage in the race to replace him, the Trump campaign is gearing up to challenge her candidacy by linking her to Mr. Biden’s policies.
