Kamala Harris to Receive NAACP’s Chairman’s Award

NEW YORK—Former Vice President Kamala Harris is set to be honored with the NAACP’s Chairman’s Award at the upcoming Image Awards ceremony this weekend.

Harris, who lost to Donald Trump in the previous presidential election, made history as the first woman and the first person of color to hold the vice presidency. She has also served as a U.S. senator for California and was the state’s attorney general.

“Vice President Kamala Harris exemplifies not just leadership but a powerful catalyst for change, fueled by an enduring commitment to create a more just and equitable future. We are immensely proud to honor her with this year’s Chairman’s Award at the NAACP Image Awards, recognizing her tireless work toward justice, equality, and societal improvement,” stated Leon W. Russell, chair of the NAACP’s national board of directors, in a declaration on Monday.

Notable past recipients of the Chairman’s Award include former President Barack Obama, the late Rep. John Lewis, and the late actress Ruby Dee.

The Image Awards, co-hosted by the NAACP and BET, are scheduled for Saturday at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California. Award categories span from entertainer of the year to best film to outstanding poetry performance.
