Katy Perry to Join All-Female Space Mission
Katy Perry is gearing up for a journey to space as part of an all-female crew.
The 40-year-old pop star will be on board the next launch of Jeff Bezos‘ Blue Origin rocket, according to the aerospace company.
The star of “Teenage Dream” will be accompanied on the New Shepard program’s 11th human flight by former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, research scientist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and TV personalities Gayle King and Lauren Sanchez, who is also engaged to Bezos.
The mission aims to “challenge [the crew’s] perspectives of Earth,” “empower them,” and “create a lasting impact that will inspire generations,” as stated by the organizers.
Perry is recognized as one of the best-selling music artists globally, boasting over 115 billion streams.
She expressed her desire for the trip to inspire her daughter and others to “reach for the stars, both literally and figuratively.”
To date, the New Shepard program has successfully flown 52 individuals beyond the Karman line, which is internationally acknowledged as the threshold of space.

This marks the first all-female crew since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo spaceflight in 1963.
New Shepard is a reusable sub-orbital launch vehicle created for space tourism.
Named after Alan Shepard, the first American to journey into space, it is designed for vertical takeoff and landing.
Other notable figures who have participated in previous flights include Bezos, Star Trek actor William Shatner, and former NFL player Michael Strahan.
The upcoming flight, NS-31, is scheduled to launch in the spring.
