KFC Becomes TFC: Iconic Fast Food Chain Relocates from Kentucky to Texas | US News
KFC is making a significant move away from Kentucky.
The fast food powerhouse, previously known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, has announced its corporate office will be shifting to Texas as part of a major reorganization revealed earlier this week.
Founded by Colonel Harland Sanders, KFC will establish its new headquarters in Plano, Texas.
About 100 corporate staff members are slated to relocate within the next six months, as stated by Yum Brands, the parent company of KFC, which also oversees Taco Bell and Pizza Hut.
In recent years, numerous companies have opted to move to Texas, which is favored for its low taxes and business-friendly environment, according to a report published in 2023 by CBRE investment firm.
Kentucky’s Governor Andy Beshear promptly reacted to the announcement.
He commented: “I am disappointed by this decision and I believe the company’s founder would share this sentiment.”
“The name of this company begins with Kentucky, and it has prominently featured our state’s heritage and culture in its marketing.”
Yum Brands indicated that this relocation is part of a broader strategy to establish two main headquarters in the U.S.—one in Texas and another in Irvine, California.
KFC and Pizza Hut will be headquartered in Texas, while Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill will continue to operate from California, the company reported.
Yum Brands and KFC will also keep offices in Louisville.
“These changes are designed to position us for sustainable growth and enhance our service to customers, employees, franchisees, and shareholders,” stated Yum Brands CEO David Gibbs.

KFC’s historical connections to Kentucky are nearly a century long.
In 1930, Colonel Sanders began serving food to travelers at a gas station in Corbin, Kentucky, according to the company’s website.
Today, there are over 24,000 KFC outlets across more than 145 countries and territories worldwide.
