Knife-Wielding Man Fatally Shot by Tustin Police

TUSTIN, Calif.—Tustin police officers killed a bloodied, knife-wielding man Jan. 9.

The officers responded at about 8:35 a.m. to a call about a suspicious subject holding a large knife with blood on his hands and clothing in the area of Warner and Red Hill avenues, according to Tustin police Sgt. Colt Kirwan.

Arriving officers located the man, who was holding a knife and walking in traffic lanes on Warner Avenue, Kirwan said.

“Shortly after officers contacted the subject, he suddenly advanced on the officers with the knife and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the sergeant said.

The officers immediately provided first aid to the suspect and Orange County Fire Authority paramedics also worked on him but he died at the scene, Kirwan said.

Tustin police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office were investigating the shooting and anyone with information was asked to call Detective Haug at 714-573-3246.
