Lando Norris breaks Max Verstappen’s winning streak by claiming first Formula One victory | US News
Lando Norris has put an end to Max Verstappen’s winning streak by clinching his first career victory at the Miami Grand Prix.
In his 110th Formula One appearance, the 24-year-old from Bristol capitalized on a safety car period to overtake Verstappen.
Verstappen trailed Norris on the 180mph sprint to the first corner at the Hard Rock Stadium, but Norris held him off before setting the fastest lap of the race.
He crossed the finish line seconds ahead of Verstappen, who secured second place, followed by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in third, and his teammate Carlos Sainz in fourth.
Lewis Hamilton achieved his best result of the season with a sixth-place finish.
“Whooooooooooo, whooooooooo, I love you all,” Norris exclaimed over the radio after crossing the finish line.
“Thank you so much. We did it, Will [Joseph, Norris’s race engineer]. We did it.
“I guess that is how it is done. Finally. Oh, I am so happy. I knew it when I came in this morning. I said today is the day, full of opportunities. I nailed it, you nailed it, thank you so much.
“Thanks Mum, thanks Dad, this one is for my grandma, thank you very much.”
