Lily Allen Steps Back from Her “Miss Me?” Podcast for Mental Health Reasons | Entertainment & Arts News

Lily Allen has announced her intention to pause her acclaimed podcast with childhood friend Miquita Oliver, stating that she is “really not in a good place”.

The singer and actress shared this information during Thursday’s episode of the BBC Sounds podcast Miss Me?, where she has also previously opened up about her mental health struggles.

“I’m struggling to find interest in anything,” Allen remarked. “I really am in a bad spot… I’ve been discussing this for months, but I’ve been falling deeper and deeper, and it’s become overwhelming.”

This news follows reports about a potential separation between Allen and her husband, Stranger Things star David Harbour. The couple, who wed in Las Vegas in 2020, had been residing together in New York along with her two daughters.

In the podcast episode, Allen expressed, “I just can’t focus on anything aside from the pain I’m experiencing. It’s really challenging.”

She mentioned she will be “going away” for a couple of weeks to take time for herself, clarifying that she is not entering a rehab facility but will be in a place where she won’t have access to her phone.

The 39-year-old British artist has maintained sobriety since she quit alcohol approximately five years ago.

Her latest album, No Shame, was released in 2018. Since then, she has transitioned into acting, appearing on stage in the West End in productions like 2:22 A Ghost Story and the revival of Martin McDonagh’s Olivier Award-winning comedy The Pillowman.

She also starred in the Sky series Dreamland.

Allen and former Popworld presenter Oliver launched the Miss Me? podcast in March 2024, billed as a twice-weekly “transatlantic catch-up” covering their life’s highs and lows as well as significant cultural moments of the week.

They also respond to listeners’ inquiries on various subjects.

In September, they received the award for Best Entertainment at the British Podcast Awards.

In more recent episodes, Allen has expressed her hope to return to the studio to produce more music later this year.

The Brit and Ivor Novello-winning artist is recognized for hits such as Smile, LDN, and The Fear, along with her rendition of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know, which featured in the 2013 John Lewis Christmas advertisement.
