Lizzo explains her comments on quitting | Entertainment and Arts News

US pop star Lizzo reassured fans that she is not leaving the music industry, following an earlier statement where she expressed frustration with online ridicule.

The About Damn Time singer made headlines after concluding an Instagram post last week with “I didn’t sign up for this shit. I quit” – mentioning that she felt criticized by everyone in her life and online.

However, in a new video on Tuesday, the 35-year-old clarified that she meant she was “quitting giving any negative energy attention”, not quitting singing or songwriting.

“What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting with people,” she said in a video posted on social media.

She continued: “If I can just give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves, and say they quit letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I’ve done even more than I could’ve hoped for.”

“With that being said, I’m going to keep moving forward, I’m going to keep being me.”

The Grammy Award winner also expressed gratitude for the love she has received from fans, emphasizing that it “means more than you know”.

Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, was sued last August by ex-dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, who accused her of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.

At the time, she described the allegations as “gut-wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing” – adding that the claims are “as unbelievable as they sound”.

In her post on 30 March, Lizzo mentioned she is “constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look”.

A day before the statement, a lawyer representing the three former dancers who filed the lawsuit against the singer criticized her for headlining a Radio City fundraiser for President Joe Biden “amid such egregious allegations”.
