Lizzo seeks dismissal of bullying allegations from former employee, court hears | Entertainment and Arts Update

Pop star Lizzo has requested a judge to dismiss a lawsuit from a former employee alleging bullying, harassment and discrimination, dismissing the claims as “meritless”.

The suit was filed by fashion designer Asha Daniels.

It accused her boss – Lizzo‘s wardrobe manager – of doing stereotypical impressions of black women, forcing dancers to change in front of the mostly white, male stage crew, and describing the performers as “fat,” “useless” and “dumb”.

Lizzo’s lawyers said the suit was “defective” because the allegations have no connection to California, where the suit was filed.

Ms Daniels lives in New York and worked for Lizzo, 35, while she was on tour in Europe, according to the filing.

The singer’s lawyers also accused Ms Daniels of “abandoning” her job after three weeks and getting fired as a result.

The fashion designer’s lawyer has previously said the “buck stops” with Lizzo.

In a statement, lawyers for Ms Daniels called the filing a “Hail Mary” that seeks to shift blame to the victims.

“Lizzo and her lawyers can continue trying to rationalise her illegal and wretched conduct but we remain committed to seeking justice for our clients, and look forward to our day in court where Lizzo can explain her behaviour in a public forum,” the statement said.

Three former dancers of Lizzo’s are also suing the star in a separate lawsuit over claims of sexual harassment and a hostile work environment.

Lizzo has denied the accusations, calling them “false,” “unbelievable” and “outrageous”.
