Los Angeles Homeowner Faces Charges for Running Makeshift Park for 15 RVs in Backyard

A Los Angeles homeowner is facing two misdemeanor charges for having over five recreational vehicles (RV) parked behind her home, according to FOX News.

The homeowner renting the backyard in the 14000 block of Hubbard Street in Sylmar—the northernmost neighborhood in the city of Los Angeles City—to these RV owners is reportedly making $10,000 a month, according to Fox News. Rent reportedly ranges from $500 to $700 a month for each RV.

The misdemeanor charges are for trash dumping and renting out her property without a permit.

“Upon being notified of this issue, my office initiated the inspections of the property in question with the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety, which resulted in violations and notices for compliance,” Los Angeles City Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, whose district covers Sylmar, said in a statement. “While this case is pending with the courts for sanctions, I will continue to use every resource at my disposal to mitigate the health and safety risk it poses to the community.”

Neighbors told Fox News that they could smell the feces and waste being dumped onto the street at night from the RV homes.

An occupant of one of the RVs told reporters the homeowner is a good person helping migrants find a place to stay.
