Lost Utah pet cat rescued after being trapped in Amazon return box and transported to California
A cat from Utah has been discovered in a Californian Amazon warehouse after unintentionally being shipped in a return box by her owners.
Galena disappeared on 10 April, leaving her owners puzzled about her whereabouts despite extensive searches by family and friends in their home and neighborhood.
Owner Carrie Clark, speaking to KSL TV, an affiliate of Sky’s US partner NBC News, recounted receiving a text message on 17 April indicating that Galena’s microchip had been scanned.
Shortly after, a vet in California contacted her.
“I initially thought it was a joke,” she told KSL. “I quickly informed my husband about Galena’s discovery, and we were overwhelmed with emotions upon realizing that she had likely jumped into an oversized box we had shipped out the previous Wednesday.”
“The box contained steel-toed work boots and served as a ‘try before you buy’ box.”
Galena had been trapped inside the box for six days without food or water.
Ms Clark spoke to an Amazon warehouse worker named Brandy, who found Galena. Brandy confirmed to Clark over the phone that she cared for Galena before taking her to the vet the following day.
Upon receiving the call, the couple immediately booked a flight and were joyfully reunited with their pet.
“Despite being thinner and slightly dehydrated, Galena’s bloodwork was normal, and she was unharmed,” Ms Clark reported.

The couple updated a Facebook post on a Utah county lost and found pets group page, celebrating Galena’s “survival story.”
They wrote: “We’re in awe of all the tender mercies that have taken place. It’s a total miracle!!”
Ms Clark emphasized the importance of microchipping pets and advised, “Triple check your Amazon boxes.”
