Luigi Mangione: Accused New York Shooter Clashes with Police Outside Courthouse | US News
The suspect in the murder of a US health insurance executive has engaged in a struggle with law enforcement while being taken to court.
Luigi Mangione, who was in handcuffs, yelled at reporters outside the Pennsylvania courthouse: “This is utterly disconnected and an affront to the intelligence of the American people and their real-life experiences.”
He faces charges for the murder of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, Brian Thompson, who was fatally shot in Manhattan last week.
Clad in an orange prison jump suit, Mangione was observed wrestling with officers who pushed him against a wall.
Following this, he was taken into the Blair County Courthouse for an extradition hearing.
Mangione was detained on Monday after a McDonald’s employee in Pennsylvania alerted law enforcement about a patron found with a firearm, mask, and documents linking him to the attack.
Previously charged in Altoona with weapons offenses, forgery, and other crimes, he is now set to be extradited to New York City.
Brian Thompson, 50, was shot and killed last Wednesday while walking alone to a hotel hosting the annual investor conference for UnitedHealthcare’s parent organization, UnitedHealth Group.
