Man Sets Tesla Chargers Ablaze in South Carolina, Accidentally Ignites His Clothes

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.—A man set three Tesla chargers ablaze in a South Carolina parking lot and inadvertently ignited his clothing, according to police reports.

The individual spray-painted “long live the Ukraine” along with a crude remark directed at President Donald Trump on the ground next to the charging stations on Friday, near an outlet mall in North Charleston, as reported by the North Charleston Police.

Afterward, he lit a substance contained in beer bottles and hurled them at the charging stations. In the process, he accidentally set his clothes on fire and fled the scene, as per witness accounts provided to authorities.

As of Tuesday, no arrests had been made, stated North Charleston Police spokesperson Harve Jacobs. The investigation has since been handed over to the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Authorities collected the beer bottles used in the incident while firefighters disabled the chargers’ power and extinguished the fire.
