Man Shot To Death In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, Calif.—A 35-year-old man was found shot to death March 29 in Santa Ana in what detectives said could be a gang-related shooting.

Santa Ana Police Department officers received a call regarding a report of a person shot at approximately 1:36 p.m. and responded to Jetty Drive and Trask Avenue where they found a man with gunshot wounds to the upper torso, according to Maria Lopez of the Santa Ana Police Department.

The victim was identified as Johnny Daniel Mercado of Santa Ana. Paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority rendered aid to Mercado but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about this shooting was asked to call detectives at the police department’s Homicide Section at 714- 245-8390 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS. The case is eligible for the Gang Reward Program, Lopez said.
