A commercial airline has collided mid-air with a Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopter over Washington DC.
The incident took place over the Potomac River, close to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The aircraft involved has been identified as PSA Airlines flight 5342, which was operating for American Airlines, originating from Wichita, Kansas.
Local law enforcement reported on social media that “a multi-agency search and rescue operation is currently in progress.”
The National Transportation Safety Board is in the process of gathering more details regarding the incident.
All takeoffs and landings at the airport have been temporarily suspended, but the terminal remains operational.
