Milo Ventimiglia, Mel Gibson, Miles Teller, and Other Stars Who Have Lost Their Homes in Los Angeles Fires
LOS ANGELES—The wildfires in Pacific Palisades have devastated the home of “This Is Us” actor Milo Ventimiglia, notably destroying the crib he had recently set up for his upcoming child.
CBS cameras captured the actor’s first moments in his scorched house, where he stood amidst the remnants of what was once his kitchen, surveying a neighborhood left in shambles. “Your heart just breaks.”
With his pregnant wife, Jarah Mariano, and their dog, they evacuated on Tuesday and watched despairingly through security cameras as flames engulfed their home, obliterating everything in its path, including the new crib.
“There’s a kind of shock moment where you’re going, ‘Oh, this is real. This is happening.’ What’s the point of watching anymore?” At a certain point, we decided to just turn it off, as it was too painful to keep observing.”
Reflecting on the tragedy, Ventimiglia noted a striking similarity to his “This Is Us” character, Jack Pearson, who tragically perished after inhaling smoke during a house fire. “It’s not lost on me that life imitates art.”
Mandy Moore, who portrayed Ventimiglia’s spouse on “This Is Us,” nearly faced a similar fate with her home during the Eaton fire that ravaged parts of Altadena. She mentioned on Thursday that while part of her house remains, it is currently uninhabitable, and her husband lost his music studio along with all his instruments.
Actor Mel Gibson’s home has been confirmed as “completely gone” by his publicist, Alan Nierob, after he disclosed the loss during an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast.
Countless celebrities have reported homes lost or damaged in the rapidly spreading wildfires that have affected Los Angeles and surrounding regions. The death toll has reached at least 10, with thousands of structures and vehicles destroyed, and over 150,000 individuals currently under evacuation orders.
The residence of Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh, has been reduced to mere dust and debris, with only the overgrown shrubbery and an entrance gate remaining intact. Keleigh shared images of their home on Instagram before and after the fire, urging those in the vicinity to evacuate and thanking first responders for their efforts.
“We will return stronger than ever,” she wrote, expressing regret for not having taken her wedding dress with them.
Billy Crystal and his wife have tragically lost their home of 45 years. Other notable figures such as Paris Hilton, Jeff Bridges, Cary Elwes, and R&B artist Jhené Aiko have reported similar losses. Haley Joel Osment expressed his devastation, stating he lost everything in Altadena.
“I am deeply saddened by the losses many are experiencing, and I am trying to hold on to the unique details of this beautiful town that are now gone forever. Thank you to all who have reached out and assisted us during this heartbreaking time,” the actor shared on Instagram.
