Mother in Ohio fatally shot while attempting to thwart carjacking with her six-year-old child in the vehicle | US News
A tragic incident occurred in the US where a mother lost her life while trying to prevent two men from stealing her car with her sleeping six-year-old son inside.
29-year-old speech therapist Alexa Stakely sustained a fatal head injury when the vehicle struck her while being driven away, leading to her demise at the hospital.
The perpetrators ditched the car not far from the scene, leaving Ms. Stakely behind as they fled in Columbus, Ohio.
Fortunately, her son was unharmed according to the police.
Ms. Stakely, a dedicated single mother who worked two jobs, had just finished her shift as a waitress and was picking up her son from the babysitter’s residence around 1:30 am on Thursday.
After securing the sleeping boy in her running Honda SUV, she went back to retrieve his belongings from the babysitter’s place.
Upon returning to her vehicle, she noticed someone starting to back out onto the road and rushed towards the car, shouting for her son and demanding the driver to stop.
Tragically, she was struck as the car accelerated away.
The two suspects had been part of a group of men captured on security camera earlier observing nearby apartments.
They are still at large as of Friday.
