MSNBC Shuts Down Joy Reid’s Program
After almost four years on air, “TheReidOut” is concluding, signifying a significant shift in MSNBC’s evening programming.
MSNBC’s prime-time schedule is undergoing a transformation as Joy Reid departs the network, as outlined in a memo from MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler on February 24.
This week’s final installment of “TheReidOut” marks the end of Reid’s four-year journey as a political analyst and anchor at the network.
Reid’s eponymous show has been integrated into MSNBC’s prime-time lineup since 2020. Broadcasting at 7 p.m. ET, the hour-long program showcases discussions with politicians and notable figures in current affairs.
“Joy Reid is leaving the network, and we extend our gratitude for her immense contributions throughout the years,” Kutler mentioned in the memo. “Her work has garnered numerous prestigious awards, most recently, the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series.”
Kutler also indicated that the 7 p.m. time slot will feature a rotation of anchors until a new program, hosted by Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez—the current hosts of “The Weekend”—takes over during the weekdays.
Prior to Kutler’s memo confirming the cancellation, speculation was rampant over the weekend, prompting Reid to address rumors on social media.
“I am immensely proud of The Reidout @joy.msnbc.com crew, who are like family, and to all our supporters & friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one last time.”
Many have expressed disappointment regarding Reid’s departure.
Outgoing Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison expressed his gratitude for Reid’s contributions.
Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms conveyed her deep sadness over the cancellation of Reid’s show in a statement to The Daily Beast.
The announcement was met with celebrations by some, particularly among conservatives.
MSNBC has not responded to requests for comments regarding Trump’s statements.
