New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen Announces Decision Not to Seek Reelection in 2026

The New Hampshire Democrat expressed that although it’s a ‘challenging choice,’ she feels it’s essential for the Democratic Party to have a new wave of political leaders.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) revealed in a Wednesday interview that she will not seek reelection in 2026, which could negatively impact the Democrats’ effort to reclaim a majority in the Senate.

In an interview with the New York Times, the 78-year-old Shaheen confirmed her decision not to pursue a fourth term. She reiterated the necessity for Democrats to have a new generation of leadership.

“It was a tough decision, made even harder by the current political climate—particularly with President Trump and his actions,” she remarked to the publication.

“It’s crucial for New Hampshire and the entire country to usher in a new generation of leaders,” added Shaheen, who previously served as the state’s governor.

The Epoch Times reached out to her office for a statement on Wednesday.
