New Information Revealed About Plot to Assassinate Supreme Court Justice
Nicholas Roske, the suspect, allegedly informed authorities of his intention to shoot Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
A man from California reportedly told the authorities that he traveled to the East Coast with the intent to murder Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, based on recently filed court documents.
On June 7, 2022, Nicholas Roske flew from California to Virginia, arriving shortly before midnight.
After landing, he took a taxi and directed the driver to a residence in Maryland where Kavanaugh and his family lived.
Close to Kavanaugh’s home on June 8, 2022, Roske, who allegedly carried weapons, received a call from his sister after he texted her, “I love you.”
In an interview with the Montgomery County Police Department, Roske stated, “I told her what I was doing, I was up to, and she told me that that wasn’t the way to go about trying to make the world a better place and, you know, that she didn’t want to, you know, she wanted to have me as a sibling for the rest of her life and not, you know, with that ending.”
Instead of following through with his intentions, he opted to call 911.
During the call, he stated, “I need psychiatric help,” a recording of which has been previously made available to the public.
Law enforcement quickly responded and apprehended Roske. He is set to face trial later this year and could be sentenced to as much as 20 years in prison if found guilty.
His legal team submitted the interrogation transcript along with other documents, aiming to suppress statements he made to the police, as well as details about items allegedly discovered in his luggage.
Roske’s attorneys claimed that officers conducted an illegal search of his possessions and did not properly secure a waiver of his rights prior to questioning him.
“At the time, Mr. Roske was acutely suicidal, visibly exhausted, and had repeatedly expressed his need for psychiatric care,” the motion indicates. “Because these latter statements were not preceded by valid Miranda waivers, they too must be suppressed.”
The prosecution has yet to respond to these motions.
Motivation
Within the newly released interview transcript, Roske elaborated on his reasons for allegedly plotting to murder Kavanaugh, citing the leak of a draft Supreme Court ruling intended to overturn Roe v. Wade, which would empower states to impose stricter abortion regulations.
“I’ve been suicidal for a long time, and when I saw that the leaked draft, it made me upset and then it made me want to, I don’t know,” he remarked. “I was under the delusion that I could make the world a better place by killing him.”

He also stated that another incentive was his awareness of the Supreme Court’s intentions to relax gun control regulations, thereby facilitating easier access to firearms for the public.
Roske noted the irony in being able to purchase a gun prior to his journey to the Washington area.
Despite having multiple psychiatric holds in his history, he was able to obtain a firearm since more than five years had passed since his last hold.
