New Orleans Incident: Bodycam Footage Captures Shamsud-Din Jabbar Shooting at Police Before Being Fatally Shot | US News
The individual responsible for the tragic New Year’s incident in New Orleans, which resulted in 14 fatalities, was seen firing at police from within his truck before being shot by officers, as new bodycam footage has shown.
US Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a rented truck into a crowd celebrating on the iconic Bourbon Street.
The FBI had earlier stated that Jabbar was “100% motivated” by the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization.
Recent footage published by the New Orleans Police depicts Jabbar shooting from behind an airbag as multiple officers close in around his truck following a collision.
Bodycam footage from Officer Luis Robles captures two officers standing by the truck’s open door, with one aiming his weapon.
A flash from the muzzle can be seen coming from the truck as several shots are fired. Officers take cover as Jabbar shoots at them from a very short distance.
Ultimately, three officers fired their weapons during the incident. The police have not disclosed the total number of shots fired by Jabbar.
The FBI also reported that an ISIS flag and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device (IED) were located inside the vehicle used in the attack.
Prior to the attack, the suspect shared five videos on social media in support of ISIS, the agency stated.
