CHIMNEY ROCK, N.C.—Officials in North Carolina project that it will take many years, numerous volunteers, and up to $60 billion to recover from the extensive damage inflicted by Hurricane Helene in late September 2024.

In the historic village of Chimney Rock, situated in the western region of the state, a committed team of volunteers has been providing crucial support to the recovery efforts at no cost.
