Now Illuminating Times Square: Four Numbers Poised for Their Moment
The striking “2025” display can be enjoyed at street level for photos until December 23. After that, it will be installed atop the One Times Square skyscraper.
NEW YORK CITY—On an unexpectedly warm and overcast winter morning, four enormous numbers were positioned in Times Square, igniting anticipation for the future.
The 7-foot-tall “2025” figures were unveiled in Times Square on December 18, generating excitement for the upcoming year.
These monumental numbers will remain in Times Square for photographs between 46th and 47th streets until 7 a.m. on December 23.
Afterward, the numerals will be mounted on the top of One Times Square as a feature of the grand 2025 display for the New Year’s live broadcast, where they will be illuminated when the ball drops.
Tom Harris, the President of the Times Square Alliance, spoke during the unveiling. “You can tell that New Year’s is in full swing when the numerals arrive,” he remarked. “Hundreds of thousands will flock to Times Square, and in the coming days, they’ll have the opportunity to take pictures with the numerals.”
This year, Times Square collaborated with AMA Electric and Kia to manage the display of the numerals. A Kia EV9 was prominently showcased next to the glowing numbers.
James Bell, Kia’s Head of Public Relations, commented during the lighting ceremony, “While New York has seen its share of power outages, I want everyone to know that the EV9 right there can power these lights.”
Bell explained that their support for the numerals stems from the Accelerate the Good initiative, aimed at “reminding everyone that this is a season of giving.”
“So our gift to the world is these illuminated numerals for New Year’s Eve, and we’re thrilled about it,” he added.
The combined weight of the numbers is approximately 1,200 pounds, with the zero being the heaviest at 380 pounds.
