NY Governor Signs Legislation to Safeguard Abortion Pill Providers After Louisiana Doctor’s Indictment
Hochul mentioned that authorities in Louisiana probably recognized the doctor via the prescription label on the abortion pill.
On February 3, New York Governor Kathy Hochul enacted a bill intended to protect the identities of physicians who prescribe abortion medications to individuals in states with abortion restrictions.
This legislation permits physicians to request that the name of their medical practice appears on the prescription labels for mifepristone, misoprostol, and other abortion medications, rather than their personal names.
Hochul also declared that she had reached an agreement with the legislature on a law designed to ensure that pharmacies comply with providers’ requests to only print their medical practice address on prescription labels.
“Under no circumstances will I agree to an extradition that puts our doctor in jeopardy of being prosecuted as a criminal for merely upholding her oath,” she asserted.
Hochul indicated that Louisiana officials likely pinpointed Carpenter through the prescription label associated with the abortion pill purportedly sent to the minor’s mother.
“The doctor’s name was present on the prescription bottle. That’s what they used to track down this individual,”
