One of Los Angeles’ Biggest Heists: Thieves Make Off with Up to $30M in Cash | US News
Reports indicate that thieves have managed to steal approximately $30m (£23.7m) in cash from a money storage facility in Los Angeles, making it one of the largest burglaries in the city’s history.
The perpetrators reportedly broke in through the roof on Easter Sunday night, as revealed by sources to the LA Times. The theft went undetected until the following day when the vault was opened.
It remains unclear how the alarm system was bypassed.
The facility, located in the Sylmar area of the San Fernando Valley, is utilized to store and manage cash from local businesses, said police commander Elaine Morales.
According to the LA Times, very few individuals were aware of the significant amount of cash stored at the facility.
The FBI is reportedly collaborating with local law enforcement in investigating the incident.
The timing of the theft draws parallels with the notorious Hatton Garden heist in London, which also occurred over the Easter weekend in 2015 to minimize the risk of detection due to the closure of nearby businesses.

The LA burglary occurred approximately two years after the theft of 22 bags of jewels and valuables worth up to $100m (£79m) from a truck just north of LA on Interstate 5.
The thieves acted while one of the armed drivers was asleep and the other was getting food at a gas station. To date, they remain at large.
