Opponent suggests Commander ‘should be put down’ after shooting and killing her own dog, says Kristi Noem | US News
According to a political opponent, Joe Biden’s dog, which has bitten US Secret Service staff multiple times, should be euthanized. The opponent, Kristi Noem, who wrote about her own experience of shooting her dog Cricket more than 20 years ago, is currently being considered as a potential candidate for Vice President by Donald Trump.
In her upcoming memoir, Noem reveals the story of how she had to shoot Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, after it attacked and killed a neighboring family’s chickens, labelling the dog as “extremely dangerous”.
Noem, in a recent interview, suggested that President Biden’s German shepherd, Commander, should face a similar fate due to its history of attacking Secret Service personnel.
She was quoted saying on CBS News’ Face The Nation, “Joe Biden’s dog has attacked 24 Secret Service people. So how many people need to be attacked before a decision is made regarding the dog?”
When asked if she was proposing that the dog be shot, Noem responded, “That is what the president should be held accountable for.”
In her book, Noem describes Cricket as “less than worthless” and “untrainable,” before revealing that she also had to kill her family’s goat, which she deemed “nasty and mean.”
Despite facing backlash for her actions, Noem continues to defend her choices, emphasizing the difficulty of the decisions she had to make. She compared the situation to being a mother and having to choose between her children’s safety and that of a dangerous animal.
When asked why she didn’t opt to take the dog to a shelter instead of euthanizing it, Noem explained that Cricket was a working dog with a problematic history from its previous family, making it her responsibility to make the tough decision herself.
President Biden has not issued a response to these remarks.
Commander, the President’s dog, has been reported to have bitten Secret Service staff multiple times, resulting in the dog being removed from the White House last October. Previously, another of Biden’s German shepherds, Major, was also relocated after biting incidents.
