Oprah Winfrey shares her ‘biggest regret’ while discussing challenges with weight loss: Entertainment and Arts News
Oprah Winfrey has acknowledged her role in promoting diet culture throughout her career and expressed regret over a dieting segment from a 1980s show. The 70-year-old media mogul, known for her influential work, has been transparent about her weight struggles and weight loss efforts.
In March, she shared that being mocked for her weight was a common occurrence for over two decades.
During a livestream event, Winfrey stated, “I want to admit that I have actively participated in this diet culture through my various platforms, including magazines and talk shows, for 25 years.”
She confessed to hosting numerous weight loss shows and makeovers, which had become a staple in her television career.
She reflected on one specific regret from a 1988 episode where she rolled a wagon of fat on stage to showcase her weight loss from a liquid diet and exercise. Winfrey admitted the harmful message it sent and how it led to her regaining the weight shortly after.
Now, she aims to take responsibility for her actions and strive for improvement.
Speaking at a WeightWatchers event, where she was a board member until 2015, Winfrey detailed her weight struggles and triumphs, including a 12kg weight loss featured on the cover of O magazine alongside other women on a similar journey.

In December, Winfrey disclosed to People that she had begun using a weight loss medication as a management tool to prevent fluctuations in her weight.
She emphasized the importance of having a medically approved option for weight management and wellbeing, viewing it as a relief and a gift rather than something to be ashamed of or ridiculed for.
