Origin of Donald Trump’s Alleged Pet-Eating Claims | US News

Donald Trump has reiterated claims that immigrants in an Ohio town are consuming the pets of other residents.

The accuracy of these claims was immediately fact-checked by moderators during the recent presidential debate between Mr Trump and Kamala Harris.

So, what exactly did Mr Trump say and where are these claims originating from?

Mr Trump’s Comments During the Debate

During the debate, the presidential hopeful stated: “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats… They’re eating… they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.

“And this is what’s happening in our country, and it’s a shame.”

When ABC’s debate moderator David Muir challenged these claims by reaching out to the city manager who refuted them, Mr Trump responded: “I’ve seen people on television… the people on television say ‘my dog was taken and used for food’, so maybe he said that and maybe that’s a good thing to say for a city manager.”

Ms Harris, visibly amused, responded during her turn: “Talk about extreme.”

Support for Trump’s Statements

Mr Trump’s running mate JD Vance, already outspoken about these claims on Monday, defended Mr Trump’s remarks after the debate, stating: “No one has spread false claims.”

Mr Vance, also a senator for Ohio, mentioned that the Haitian community had been causing issues in the area.
