Pence ‘Deeply Troubled’ by Trump Indictment

Former Vice President Mike Pence said Friday that he’s “deeply troubled” by former President Donald Trump’s federal indictment this week.

“I’m deeply troubled to see this indictment move forward,” Pence said during an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “Yesterday on the road in Iowa, I had said I had hoped that the DOJ would see its way clear not to move forward here. But let me be very clear: No one is above the law.”

Pence added: “I think the Justice Department should immediately move to unseal the indictment. I think the sooner we bring the facts forward to the American people, the better.”

Pence, who recently launched a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, vowed to “clean house at the highest levels of the Justice Department” if elected to the White House.

“I just think we need a whole new team,” he said. “I think there’s been literally a collapse of confidence. We have to have confidence in our institutions in this country. We have to have confidence in the rule of law.”

Pence continued: “This is a sad day for America to see a former president of the United States facing indictment under federal law. And again, I think it sends a divisive message across the country, and a terrible message across the wider world.”
