PGA Tour Golfer Grayson Murray Passes Away at Age 30 in Apparent Suicide, Parents Confirm
PGA Tour golfer Grayson Murray, who passed away at the age of 30, tragically took his own life, as confirmed by his family.
The American player, a two-time tour winner, withdrew from a competition in Texas with two holes remaining of his round on Friday, citing an illness, the day before his passing.
In a statement, his parents Eric and Terry Murray shared that “life wasn’t always easy” for their son, and despite his decision to end his life, they believe he is at peace now.
His parents expressed their grief, stating that losing Grayson was a “nightmare” and they are left with many unanswered questions.
“Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players, and by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed,” the statement read.
The Murrays also extended their gratitude to the PGA Tour and the global golf community for the overwhelming support they have received.
Murray withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday, and his passing was announced by PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, who revealed that Murray’s parents requested the event to continue after consultation with them.
In January, Murray openly discussed his struggles with anxiety and depression, revealing that he had received treatment for alcohol abuse in recent years and had been sober for several months.
