Pompeo Claims Trump’s Administration Marks the ‘Dawn of the End’ for Iranian Regime

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared, “the regime is undoubtedly at its weakest point.”

Mike Pompeo, the former Secretary of State, expressed that the second term of incoming President Donald Trump will mark the “beginning of the end” for the Iranian regime.

Speaking in Paris on Thursday to the National Council of the Resistance of Iran (NCRI), an Iranian opposition group based overseas, Pompeo expressed confidence that Trump would revive the “maximum pressure” strategy he implemented during his first term.

“It will be the beginning of the end … for the malign regime,” he stated.

Pompeo, aged 61, emphasized that he was not speaking on behalf of the Trump administration but suggested that “it is a time for optimism for the people of Iran.”

“In the past year, it’s become evident that the regime is undoubtedly at its weakest point,” he remarked, adding that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, possesses “no prayer, no hope, no dream, even of delivering prosperity to the Iranian people.”

“He is no longer capable of defending even those who risk their lives for him and his autocratic rule.”

Pompeo, who previously served as CIA director before taking the role of Secretary of State in April 2018, addressed the audience in Paris: “Examine the regime closely. It’s in crisis. The uprising of 2022, which was harshly repressed, was a pivotal moment. It revealed that the Iranian regime needs to be dismantled. The underlying issues that triggered the 2022 uprising have only worsened.”

He noted that last month the Iranian government had to enact power cuts and partially close schools and government buildings due to energy shortages.

“They couldn’t supply enough fuel, gasoline, heat – basic necessities for the ordinary lives of their citizens. The Iranian regime faced difficult choices, having to decide between heating the homes of its people or maintaining small businesses. That’s dysfunction at its worst,” said Pompeo, pointing out that this situation arises despite Iran being “one of the most energy-rich nations on the planet.”

‘Fomenting War’

He asserted that the Iranian regime prioritizes “fomenting war against their adversaries and advancing their radical ideology more than ensuring basic needs for their people.”

“The issue is not a lack of resources; it is a matter of theocratic governance and an evil regime. This regime is more concerned with enriching itself than addressing the fundamental needs of its citizens.”

Pompeo highlighted that Iran’s proxies throughout the Middle East have been decisively weakened—Hezbollah is “barely a shadow of its former self,” Hamas is “on the brink of complete defeat in Gaza,” and the Assad regime, which served as the “link between all Iranian proxy forces,” has crumbled.

Regarding the Assad regime in Syria, he stated, “The rapid collapse of that regime revealed its fragility, demonstrating to the world that the Ayatollah [Khamenei] is finished and that his time is drawing to a close.”

Pompeo, who served in Congress from 2011 to 2017, went on to liken Khamenei to the Wizard of Oz.
