Possible Connection Between Human Remains in Car and Missing Couple of 40 Years Discovered | US News
Police have announced that human remains were discovered in a car similar to one that belonged to a New York couple missing for 44 years.
The Glynn County Police Department in Georgia found the vehicle in a pond between the Royal Inn Hotel and Interstate 95 on New Jesup Highway.
A statement from officers revealed that one human bone was found in the submerged Lincoln Continental last Friday. The car is said to be similar to the one Charles and Catherine Romer were driving when they were reported missing in April 1980.
Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the remains and are currently draining the pond to search for additional evidence.
Charles Romer, 73, a retired oil executive, and his wife Catherine, 75, went missing in the spring of 1980. The New York couple were last seen checking into a Holiday Inn in Brunswick, Georgia, after returning from Miami Beach, Florida.
Concern arose when hotel staff noticed their bed had not been slept in and reported them missing, especially since Catherine was wearing expensive jewelry at the time.
Rescue diver George Baker, who had been searching for the car for years, believed foul play was involved. The car was eventually located by a team from Florida that uses sonar to find missing objects, according to Glynn County police.
A spokesperson for the police stated that there were no updates on the case as of Monday night, as reported by Sky’s partner network NBC News.
