Powerball Winner Claims Record $1.3 Billion Jackpot – Discover What They Could Purchase with Their Windfall | US News

A lucky winner of a US lottery has claimed a $1.3bn jackpot that had been growing for over three months.

This Powerball jackpot is the eighth largest in US history, and the unidentified winner has the option to receive the full amount over 30 years in instalments or take a cash payout of $608.9m (£481.8m).

The winning ticket, matching all six numbers 22, 27, 44, 52, 69 and the red Powerball 9, was sold in Oregon.

US lottery winnings are subject to federal and state taxes.

Prior to this win, Powerball had not seen a jackpot winner since New Year’s Day, resulting in 41 consecutive draws without a winner. The odds of winning were one in 292.2 million.

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

What can you buy with $1.3bn?

The massive amount of money could buy multiple Gulfstream G550 private jets, Northrop and Johnson yachts, or even a Premier League football club like Southampton FC.

To match Elon Musk’s purchase of X (formerly Twitter) for $44bn (£38bn) in 2022, the winner would need to win the Powerball jackpot several more times.
