Prince Harry and Meghan make their way to Colombia following Vice President’s emotional reaction to Netflix documentary | US News

Prince Harry and Meghan have arrived in Colombia for their second major overseas tour outside of the Royal Family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeted by vice president Francia Marquez at her private residence after she extended an invitation for a four-day visit.

In the first official photo released by the couple’s team, only Meghan is pictured with the vice president.

The visit aims to showcase the cultural heritage of the country while also highlighting the couple’s personal priorities, including addressing the impact of the digital world on young people, celebrating the military community, and promoting female empowerment.

Prior to the visit, the vice president shared how watching the couple’s Netflix documentary about leaving the Royal Family inspired her to invite them.

Their itinerary for the first day in Bogota includes visits to a school, a cultural showcase, and a summit hosted by Ms. Marquez focusing on addressing the harmful aspects of technology and digital platforms.

The decision to visit Colombia has raised security concerns, especially as the US travel advice for the country is at level 3. Despite this, the couple has expressed feeling unsafe in the UK after their police protection was removed.

Local security, along with their private team, will be provided for the visit to Colombia due to the invitation, which differentiates it from Harry’s personal trips to the UK where security is not provided.

Prince Harry recently lost a High Court challenge regarding the downgrade in his security protection since leaving the Royal Family, but he has been granted the right to appeal. He has traveled to London without Meghan and is not expected to return for his uncle’s funeral this summer.

The issue of security is complex both emotionally and financially, with concerns around the continuity of protection and logistics for police officers escorting the couple outside of the UK.

In a recent documentary, Prince Harry expressed concerns about safety and mentioned not wanting to bring his wife back to the UK due to the potential risks highlighted in tabloid reports.
