Prince Harry’s Remarks on ‘Weak Moral Character’ at Invictus Games Seemed Directed at Donald Trump | UK News
Prince Harry’s memoir made headlines with a multitude of revelations, and his admission of drug use was certainly not the most shocking element.
This sparked a campaign by a US think tank questioning whether he misled authorities on his visa application or if he was granted special treatment.
Two years later, the legal situation remains ongoing, but the Duke of Sussex may have received an unexpected boost from US President Donald Trump, who previously stated he would not offer protection to the prince if re-elected, citing “betrayal of the Queen.”
In a recent interview with the New York Post, Mr. Trump mentioned he would not intervene in Harry’s situation.
Mr. Trump stated: “I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”
These remarks could potentially aid Harry’s case, but Mr. Trump couldn’t help but throw shade at Meghan Markle. This isn’t surprising, as he has previously referred to her as “nasty” and more recently declared, “I’m not a fan of hers.”
As for the Sussexes, there appears to be no love lost, especially since Meghan has labeled Mr. Trump as “misogynistic,” even before her marriage to Harry.
Although the couple has not openly shared their political views, Meghan has expressed support for Kamala Harris’s nomination as Joe Biden’s running mate in 2020.
Moreover, the couple has collaborated closely with Mr. Biden’s daughter, who runs a wellness center for trauma-affected women.
Since stepping back from their royal duties, the Duke and Duchess have felt freer to voice their opinions. Just hours after Mr. Trump’s comments about Meghan, Harry took the opportunity during his opening speech at the Invictus Games to denounce “weak moral character”.
It seems like a veiled reference to Mr. Trump.
Invictus has always held a special place in Harry’s heart and commands widespread respect. This is also a familiar setting for the Sussexes.
It was at these games in Canada in 2017 that they made their first public appearance as a couple.
So much has transpired since that moment.
They sought to escape the watchful eye and the scrutiny of royal life. However, the negative press they desperately hoped to flee is proving harder to shake off.
