Prosecutors to Unveil Evidence Against Colorado Dentist Accused of Attempting to Kill Detective After Wife’s Death
DENVER—On Friday, prosecutors are expected to unveil evidence indicating that a Colorado dentist accused of murdering his wife also sought to hire a fellow inmate to kill a detective investigating him.
James Craig stands accused of poisoning his wife’s protein shakes nearly two years prior, reportedly requesting an expedited shipment of potassium cyanide that he claimed was for a patient after authorities stated that arsenic had failed to kill her.
In late 2022, new charges were brought against him, including solicitation for murder and solicitation for perjury. However, the charges did not specify who Craig allegedly wanted dead, but police in Aurora, Colorado, have confirmed that the intended target of the alleged murder scheme was a detective involved in the case.
Prosecutors are scheduled to provide further details regarding the case during a hearing on Friday afternoon in hopes of persuading a judge that Craig should face these new charges during his trial.
Craig’s trial has been postponed, and no new date has been announced.
He has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and evidence tampering. A phone call made to Craig’s defense attorneys, Lisa Moses and Robert Werking, was not immediately returned.
According to the coroner, Angela Craig, 43, passed away in March 2023 due to poisoning from cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a common ingredient found in over-the-counter eye drops. The couple had been married for 23 years and shared six children.
