Remains of Missing Illinois Man Found in Pickup Truck Buried in Mississippi River
EAST MOLINE, Ill.—Authorities in Illinois have confirmed that human remains found three months ago in a pickup truck submerged in the Mississippi River belong to a man reported missing in 2019.
“The East Moline Police Department is actively treating this case as a homicide,” Chief Jeff Ramsey stated in an announcement.
The remains have been identified as those of Daniel Claeys, a local resident who was in his early 30s at the time of his disappearance, as noted by his family in 2019. The pickup truck itself was reported stolen in 2017.
This vehicle, which was stuck deep in mud, was recovered in September from the Mississippi River close to a boat ramp in East Moline. Investigators used DNA evidence to confirm the identity of the remains.
“The family has been informed and they now have some level of closure, knowing that their loved one has been found,” Ramsey expressed on Thursday.
He emphasized that the investigation into Claeys’ disappearance and murder will continue.
