Rep. Cory Mills Under Investigation by Washington Authorities
“MPD officers responded to a call on the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue, Southwest, at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday regarding an assault,” stated the police department in a message to The Epoch Times on Feb. 21.
“This is an ongoing criminal investigation, and more details cannot be released at this moment.”
MPD also indicated that it is conducting an internal review of how the case has been managed.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred in the upscale Wharf neighborhood of Washington and involved Iranian American activist Sarah Raviani, who claimed a simple assault offense against Mills, representing Florida’s Seventh Congressional District.
According to the incident report obtained by The Epoch Times, the alleged assault involved physical contact without the use of a weapon.
In a statement to The Epoch Times, Raviani mentioned that she contacted MPD about what she described as “a personal matter.”
She noted that she was “jet-lagged and sleep-deprived” after a 14-hour flight back to Washington from vacation.
Upon the officers’ arrival, she stated that she had a drink in front of her.
“When the officers arrived, they observed bruising and marks on my arms, which I explained were due to medical conditions like eczema and activities from my recent trip to Dubai,” she recounted.
“Although the personal matter was emotionally charged, there was no physical altercation,” she added.
Raviani expressed that the incident has been misrepresented in the media, leading to continuous harassment from various sources.
“My words have been taken out of context, and my privacy is being violated. This is a very personal issue being exploited unfairly for political or other reasons,” she stated.
Raviani did not provide further details regarding her visit to Mills or what prompted her to contact law enforcement.
“Recently, law enforcement was called to address a private matter at Congressman Mills’ residence. Congressman Mills strongly denies any wrongdoing and is confident that the investigation will resolve this quickly,” stated Mills’s office in a message to The Epoch Times.
