Riverside Man’s Hand Chopped Off in Homeless Dispute, Police Say

A dispute between two homeless men in Riverside may be at the center of one of the men’s hands being cut off on May 13, according to authorities.

Riverside Police began receiving calls around 10:30 p.m. Saturday of reports of a severed hand found on the sidewalk near Fifth Street and Fairmount Boulevard, according to Riverside Police Officer Ryan Railsback.

Shortly after, Railsback told The Epoch Times, a hospital in the city’s downtown area reported a black male in his 60s had checked into the emergency room missing a hand, “claiming someone with a sword cut it off.”

The victim and the attacker are both believed to be homeless and knew each other leading authorities to believe the attack was most likely because of a dispute, Railsback said.

The suspect is still at-large and the victim, whose name has not been released, is expected to survive, police said.
