Robert F. Kennedy Jr. admits to leaving dead bear in Central Park, causing controversy
Robert F Kennedy Jr, the independent presidential candidate and nephew of President John F Kennedy, revealed that he left a deceased young bear in Central Park.
Kennedy, aged 70, shared details of the incident in a three-minute video on X, during which he recounted the events to actress and comedian Roseanne Barr.
He mentioned that The New Yorker magazine had caught wind of the incident, although the specific date remains unknown, and reached out to him for confirmation.
Kennedy explained that while driving north of New York City to go falconing, he witnessed a woman in a van hit and fatally injure a young bear.
“So I pulled over, picked up the bear, and placed it in the back of my van with the intention of skinning it as it was in good condition,” the politician stated.
“I planned to store the meat in my refrigerator.”
Kennedy recounted how he ended up back in New York City for dinner, with the deceased bear in his vehicle, due to running behind schedule.
As time for his flight approached and he had no chance to stop at his home in Westchester County, he and his friends came up with a plan based on recent bicycle accidents in the city.
“Although I wasn’t partaking in any alcohol, my companions thought it was a good idea. I suggested that I had an old bike in my car that someone had asked me to dispose of,” Kennedy shared.
“I proposed, ‘Let’s place the bear in Central Park and make it look like it was hit by a bike,'” Kennedy added, as Barr and an unseen individual chuckled.
Instead of providing entertainment as intended, the move attracted significant media attention.

The New Yorker has not released a story about Kennedy’s involvement in the incident, according to NBC News from Sky’s US partner network.
Both the magazine and Kennedy’s campaign did not respond to NBC News’ request for comments.
“This is going to be a troublesome story,” Kennedy remarked in the video amidst laughter from the audience.
In 2014, a deceased bear cub was discovered in Central Park, generating extensive media coverage.
The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation redirected NBC News’ inquiry to the New York Police Department, which had not responded at the time.
