Rory McIlroy Achieves Career Grand Slam by Winning the US Masters | Global News

With his victory at the US Masters tournament, Rory McIlroy has achieved a career grand slam in golf.

The Masters marked the final major tournament McIlroy needed to complete the modern golf grand slam, a milestone reached by only five other players prior to him.

McIlroy faced Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff to determine the champion after they both finished tied at 11 under par at the end of regulation play on Sunday.

After missing a six-foot putt for par, McIlroy recorded a bogey that brought him back to 11 under, setting the stage for a nail-biting playoff against Rose.

Only five other golfers have successfully completed a career grand slam, including legends such as Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, and Gene Sarazen.
