Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York and personal lawyer to Donald Trump, has declared insolvency in a US court, informing a judge that he possesses no car, credit card, or cash.
Giuliani, aged 80, was present in federal court in the city for a January trial determining which assets he must surrender to two Georgia election workers he accused of dishonesty to assist in stealing the 2020 presidential election from Mr Trump, who was defeated by Joe Biden.
In December last year, the disbarred lawyer was instructed to pay $148m (£118m) in damages to Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea Moss.

The women testified in a Washington court that their reputations were damaged and they received racist and violent threats due to Giuliani’s falsehoods.
During the hearing, Giuliani claimed his life had been paralyzed by the duo and, when the judge questioned his inability to locate car paperwork, he rebutted by stating: “Your assumption that I have been negligent in this matter is completely inaccurate.
“I do not possess a car, credit card, or cash. I am unable to pay my bills.”
Judge Liman cautioned Giuliani against speaking in court unless under oath and emphasized that his top priority should be “compliance with the court’s orders. Period.”
Judge Liman had earlier threatened the defendant with civil contempt for not surrendering assets, including a luxury Manhattan apartment, to offset his debts.
Giuliani’s lawyer Joseph Cammarata informed Judge Liman that his client had relinquished 90% of the assets, but his Florida property and sports memorabilia would be contested in the January trial.
Judge Liman also informed the defendant that the trial would not be delayed to accommodate his attendance at Trump’s inauguration events.

Giuliani pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in Georgia and Arizona alleging his involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
Mr Trump, a Republican like Giuliani, secured a second term in the White House earlier this month, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris.
The incoming president persistently espouses false claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him, despite lacking evidence and losing numerous court battles related to the matter.
