Salvadoran President Declares Deported Man Will Not Return to the US
Officials from the White House stated that the individual being deported is an illegal immigrant and that El Salvador has the authority to determine how to manage his case.
On April 14, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele informed U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House that an illegal immigrant deported back to El Salvador will not be allowed to re-enter the United States.
“Are you implying that I should smuggle a terrorist into the United States?” Bukele asked reporters during their meeting in the Oval Office. “I refuse to do that. The notion is ridiculous.”
Kilmar Abrego Garcia was apprehended in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 12 by agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Allegedly affiliated with MS-13, he has been held at El Salvador’s Terrorist Confinement Center for over a month.
The U.S. Supreme Court delivered a ruling on April 10, stating that the federal government ought to assist in facilitating his return; however, the ruling also recognized that the government could not be compelled to do so since the individual is currently in the custody of a foreign nation.
Earlier that day, White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller informed reporters that Abrego Garcia was deported due to his illegal entry into the country.
This is an evolving story that will be updated as new information becomes available.
