Science & Tech News: First Ever Fully Automated Dental Procedure Conducted by Robot Dentist
A groundbreaking achievement in the field of dentistry has occurred with the completion of a fully-automated dental procedure by a robot, marking a world first.
The innovative technology utilizes a robotic arm, artificial intelligence, and 3D imaging to perform dental work with greater accuracy and efficiency.
Perceptive, a company based in the US, has developed this technology to enhance the precision and speed of procedures such as fillings and crowns.
Dr. Chris Ciriello, the CEO and founder of the company, stated, “This medical breakthrough enhances precision and efficiency of dental procedures.”
With $30 million in funding and support from dentist Edward Zuckerberg, the father of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Perceptive aims to revolutionize dental care.
The company envisions crown placements being completed in just 15 minutes in the future, a drastic improvement over the current method that requires two hour-long visits to the dentist.
The process begins with a 3D scan of a patient’s tooth and mouth to capture detailed images, including those beneath the gum line.
While the robotic device is still a work in progress, it shows immense potential for transforming dental care.

The technology is not yet available for sale in the US and has not received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Despite not being currently available for purchase, the makers of the technology assure its safety and believe that it has the potential to revolutionize dentistry as we know it.
