Scottie Scheffler: Christmas Dinner Injury Leads World’s Top Golfer to Undergo Surgery | US News
The top golfer in the world has experienced an unusual injury while preparing Christmas dinner, necessitating surgical intervention.
Scottie Scheffler incurred a puncture wound after slicing the palm of his right hand on shattered glass.
The current world number one needed surgery as tiny glass pieces remained embedded in his palm following the incident.
This injury has led to his withdrawal from the first tournament of the year, The Sentry in Hawaii, scheduled for next week.
However, the 28-year-old has been informed that he will likely recover within three to four weeks, with hopes to resume play at The American Express tournament in California on January 16.
Scheffler secured an Olympic gold medal and seven PGA Tour titles over the past year and was recently honored as the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year for the third consecutive season.
In May, he was detained by authorities during the US PGA Championship after being accused of attempting to bypass a traffic jam resulting from a fatal accident.
Just hours later, he was released and permitted to return to Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky to participate in his second round of the tournament.
Subsequently, criminal charges against Scheffler were dismissed due to insufficient evidence, and a police officer involved in his arrest faced disciplinary action for not activating his body camera during the event.
