Search Launched for 10 Inmates Following Mass Escape from New Orleans Jail

One of the escapees has been recaptured after a foot pursuit, raising concerns over the delayed public alert issued by officials.

Authorities in Louisiana are urgently trying to locate 10 inmates who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center in New Orleans, with one of the fugitives already in custody following a chase through the city’s French Quarter, as confirmed by officials on Friday.

The escape was discovered during a routine headcount at 8:30 a.m. on May 16, when it became apparent that 11 inmates were missing, according to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO). Among the individuals still at large are several with serious charges, including murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, and false imprisonment.
